Day 3 - Travel Is Good for Your Health

Day 4 -Travel Is Our Favorite Way to Homeschool

There are so many benefits for the homeschool family, but today I’ll share my top five reasons travel is our favorite way to homeschool.

1. Travel Makes History Come Alive ...

Day 5 - Travel Is Both Affordable and Memorable

Whether you travel to another country or just to the next town over to camp, my number one tip to making your travels as memorable and affordable as possible is to spend time researching your destination ahead of time. Taking the time to research and plan can save you so much money and aggravation!

By doing this, you become familiar with the area you are traveling to. You can find the best places to visit (or avoid), discover those hidden gems only locals might know about and even come across special deals and coupons for your destination.

Day 6 - Travel Is an Adventure

Why is adventure important?

Adventure is defined as an exciting or unusual experience, but it can also be a BOLD or RISKY undertaking.

When it comes to our kids, I know we often don’t immediately think of risk as being a good thing, but it is often a crucial part of raising kids who can thrive in our world. See that other word – BOLD? When kids learn to take good risks, by facing something that scares them and conquering that fear, they gain confidence and it empowers them to be more BOLD in their everyday lives.

Day 7 (2 of 2) - Travel Is Necessary

Mark Twain wrote, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”

I agree.

Day 7 (1 of 2) - Travel Is the Ultimate Educational Adventure

Think about how your children like to learn:

Although museums and traditional venues for “experiencing” a new location are helpful, don’t stop there. Not every child will enjoy the visual learning experience of looking at things and reading descriptions. What hands-on experiences are available? Would a dramatic performance excite them? How about hiking or biking through the town and surrounding area? Or an educational restaurant hop to try different cuisine?

Day 8 - Travel Is the Best Gift

Another time, my daughter and I went to Niagara Falls for our own girls’ getaway! At dinner one night, she peered over the top of her adult menu to ask me a question about my own childhood. That led to more questions… and then stories. While waiting for dessert, I watched as a huge smile spread across her face. “What’s that smile for?” I asked. She said, so simply and sweetly, “We never get to talk like this. Ever. Thank you, Mom.”

Day 9 - Travel Is Great for Creating Memories

Some of my happiest memories are those created when we travel together as a family.

When we’re on a family vacation, my husband and I are able to let go of the weight of the world and focus on one another and our children in an elevated way that proves to be difficult when we’re home. I’m not going to lie, traveling with the kids can be stressful but it is definitely worth it.

Day 10 (1 of 2) - Family Travel Is Nearly Free

Over the past four years my wife Laura and I have earned nearly 1.5 million travel rewards points through our responsible use of credit cards.

We value these points at approximately $30,000 of nearly free travel, and we’ve already used them to take a nearly free three-generation trip to Walt Disney World in Florida, plus luxury getaways to Bermuda and New York City.

Day 10 (2 of 2) - Travel Is about Family

It is so easy to get stuck in the same patterns day after day, get up, clean the house, buy the groceries, do all the stuff, fall into bed at night, only to wake up the next morning and do it all gain.

Oh, but to intentionally break up the routine by adding a little wandering, travel, adventure into your days together as a family. It is just like adding that dusting of cinnamon to your normal cup of coffee. It adds just a little depth and richness, something special to the everyday.

Day 11 - Family Travel Is Stress-Free at All-Inclusive Beach Resorts

You can avoid much of this [stress] when you book your family travel at all-inclusive family beach resorts! Yes, it might cost a bit more than the economy hotel, but the benefits far outweigh the cost.

Day 12 - Travel Is Respite

As a special needs parent I do a lot of advocating for services and I find that Canada often falls short on the real supports, the ones people need to make their lives easier. The things we need to keep our families together so we don’t become statistics.

I start to wonder if respite is a fluid concept. Maybe we are simply thinking about it, or framing it wrong. Maybe respite looks like this: a child being accepted for who she is in a different country for 2 or 3 weeks every year as her parents learn to breathe again outside of doctor’s appointments and school assessments and arguing for services.

Day 13 - Travel Is NOT for Boring Families

The society we live in today is so busy that when you choose to travel with your family, you are making a “container” of unity and bonding it with the strongest glue possible.

When you travel, you are making a statement Travel is NOT for Boring Families, and your children will LOVE the fact that you are not boring. They will love to know their parents are still excited to live life and to carry a vision of new worlds and exploration of ideas yet to be discovered…and the greatest part is you get to discover them together.

Here in Autismland, we say that travel is the ultimate field trip and we take a ton of them! We do a 4-day school week saving Fridays for travel to learn new things.

Day 15 - Travel to a Blogging Conference Is Worth the Investment

Most bloggers attend conferences because they want to learn something they aren’t able to easily learn on their own at home. Hands-on experience with things like coding, photography or even marketing strategy is invaluable. Whatever it is you wish to learn, most conferences do their best to provide knowledgeable speakers that want to share their insider tips.
